Topshop heads for the stars and stripes

Well we may currently be in the midst of a global recession, but that hasn’t stopped our favourite high street wonder going stateside.

April 2nd sees Sir Phillip Green reportedly alongside Kate Moss, who has her own Topshop range, and Lady Gaga, retro and rather scantily clad singer, open the flagship NY store on Broadway. Performances by Santogold, Mark Ronson and of course Lady Gaga will provide a musical backdrop to the opening of the shop which has 2,500 sq foot of space and a VIP lounge among massive collections of your fave Topshop garments, Unique collection and Kate Moss’ range to name but a few.

Something for fashionista’s across the Atlantic to get excited about amid these troubled financial times!

Fashion Platform: Men’s Fashion: In Trends

It’s rare to have much of a change when it comes to men’s fashion trends, unlike women’s trends which change all the time, men’s fashion trends tend to stick! Here are a few In styles for 2009 for the male style guru’s out there!
Classic plays a big part in Men’s fashion trends and for the “groomed” tailoring look classic is where it’s at. Striped blazers, pinstripe suits, and twill tailored trousers teamed with skinny ties and sharp shirts are everywhere on the catwalk.

Deep V neck tops and cardigans are, and have been in trend for a while now, dress with straight leg jeans or tailored trousers for a smart sophisticated look. It’s important to keep things simple and not to go overboard with what’s in fashion so as not to look TOO trendy.

Bright colours as with women’s trends is big for men too, and are as flamboyant as you are daring to go! The striped look in tailoring crosses over here too, like neon yellow stripes on a plain grey shirt teamed with a simple black tie which can add a splash of colour to evening attire or business dress.
The preppy college boy look is also in this season, and double breasted shirts, pocketed cardigans and laced pumps, not sure about the Jay-Z style goofy glasses though!

Most importantly the good thing about men’s fashion trends is that they stick when the seasons change- Men get it easy hey girls?

Fashion Platform - Accessories: Think big and bold!

Designers and the high street are thinking big this fashion season for accessories!

We’re talking about flamboyant, attention-grabbing look finishers! Accessories are most definitely stealing the show at the moment; here are the best ways to merchandise up a sassy outfit.

Necklaces

Whether it’s funky statement making jewels you’re after or feminine chic this season’s got it all! Glam neckwear in the form of teardrop, tribal or multi-layer bib necklaces are adorning the necks of many a Fashionista everywhere! ASOS.com has a great selection of bold designs to look fab in with a great vintage edge.

Clutch bags

This seasons must-have arm candy has gone seriously sophisticated with snakeskin prints, multi-colours, metallics, envelope clutches, oversized clutches as well as seriously dinky clutches; all do the same job, add the finishing touches to a perfect outfit! Remember they’re not just for the evening, they are now so glammed up, that they can be rocked day or night! So if it’s the club or brunch with friends- a clutch will work wonders to add spice to a look.

Statement tights and bold scarves

Everyone is rockin’ bold print scarves through the chill, and at the moment it’s all about the bright eye catching coloured scarves and funky prints. A Simple yet funky and bright scarve can brighten up any outfit and doubles up at keeping you warm! Whether it is paisley, twill or just plain and bright it’s in! These styles of scarve are also crossing over into statement tights, and many catwalks are adorned with models in nude colours and paisley printed tights. But it’s definitely the season for brilliant bright colouring in legwear! Nab yourself a pair of cobalt blue tights (in colour this season) in 70 denier or more and have the added bonus of keeping warmer during the chilly months.

Hair accessories

For those that thought bows were only big as sequin patterns on cardigans and dresses, or bags and shoes, you thought wrong, they are also big as hair accessories. A trend that came about in the 80s- Lady Gaga has taken hair accessories to the extreme with her hair-extension-bow sculpture- however those less daring may prefer a cute zebra print bow on a Kirby grip, or an oversized satin bow to add femininity to a look and glam up a simple hair do! Either way bow down to the bow!

The completion of any outfit- an accessory can often be the picture piece of a look or to simply add an elegant splash to an LBD whichever way suits you, make sure you do accessories in style this season!

New Year, New Styles- Killer trends for 2009

A fresh new start to the season brings fresh new trends, and with spring just around the corner, it’s time to embrace the fashion future, and the styles that are hot for 09!

This year we are set for revivals, and unique new edgy looks. The colours, the prints the accessories, what should you be updating your wardrobe with?
Sporty Luxe- The trend that’s got everyone talking! Sportswear meets glam chic. Be youthful, glamorous, cool and most importantly sexy. 50s GlamWear mixed with a sporty, fresh edge. Zip through dresses, hooded tops, harem trousers and satin bomber jackets will get you rockin’ pretty in the clubs and on the street. Teamed with fierce heels and flashes of bright neon accessories, it’s the luxury of the everyday redesigned with cuts and fabrics to offer a glam new look.

80s- A trend that never seems to die. The 80s look is going pop! this season with fantastic bright colouring, and textures resurrected to chic maqnifique! Leopard and Lace, Graffiti and Bows, Hi tops and Hoodies there’s no end to the flavour of the material girl! An era that thrived on the energy of bright colours (yellows, oranges and greens) is well and truly revived! Key items are tailored jackets with cute prints, rounded shoulders with a futuristic edge, jumpsuits, headscarves and blazers. Finish up the look with patent heels, and studs- fashion for the hell of it!

Key colours this season- It may be a dark season until the emergence of spring, but that doesn’t mean you should cloud your wardrobe with grey. Brighten up your day with bold colours such as reds, purples and blues. Blue is in in a big way whether it be cobalt, cornflower or metallic shades, team a simple LBD with an oversized blue bag or blue heels to inject some electric into your look!
Berry colours are a must-do this season too. Nab a bright red trench coat or a purple shift dress and become a fruity fashionista this season. Orange is also in so add a bit of spice to a look with apricots and chestnut browns.
Key ‘it’ items- Faux fur jacket, not only does it keep you toasty during the cold snap, but you’ll have the look of a real fashion diva, layer a faux fur coat or filet over a printed shift dress or tunic and accessorise with gold jewellery.

Prints- This season there are many hot prints to die for out there! Paisley or oriental prints are a must have! And a cute kimono embellished top would look great with silk trousers or under a faux fur jacket!

Wild West- The emergence of fringing has seen Wild West lead the way on the catwalk and on the high street. Suede and fringing looks great on bags and shoes with a Native American printed tunic. Beige and Nude are ‘it’ colours this season and these colours work well in amongst the Wild West trend, accessorise it with a slightly brighter colour though to avoid looking too nude!
Enjoy the fresh new start to the season and the killer trends that will bring out the fashionista in us all!
